Letter: American Solidarity Party may be political answer

On the April 12 Opinion page of The Lima News, columnist Christine Flowers accused the Democrats of creating a “Banana Republic” by backing the indictment of Trump. Columnist Robert Reich, on the other hand, accused the Republicans of becoming “the American fascist party.”

Well, if you’re feeling more and more like a political orphan at this point, there’s an exciting new political party in America that is growing significantly of late. It is becoming home to a voting populace caught between a conservative rock and a liberal hard place, so to speak.

The “American Solidarity Party” is a refreshing mix of conservative and liberal thought, without all the drama. The party is, indeed, pro-life and supports traditional family values, a hallmark of conservatism. Yet the party is also for strong environmental consciousness and increased help for those on the margins, a hallmark of liberalism.

In other words, the ASP’s “true north,” if you will, is simply trying to do the right/moral thing in each case.

The ASP stands in “solidarity” with the unborn child, with worker’s rights, with a clean environment, with the plight of the struggling immigrant, with safe streets and schools… You name it.

The ASP symbol is the pelican. And “pelican partisanship” simply means always trying to back causes that seem right, and just, across the societal board. For more on the party, go to solidarity-party.org.
