Letter: Response to ‘Operation Big Needle’

I am writing in response to Vigil Stephens’ letter published on Sunday, “Operation Big Needle.” On behalf of Allen County Public Health, I want to thank you, Vigil, and your friends, for coming to our COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at the former Knights of Columbus hall in Lima. A wonderful group of volunteers, along with our staff, are the ones responsible for the smooth operation at this clinic. We look forward to the day when there is enough vaccine so that everyone who wants a vaccine can get one.

Toward that end, Allen County Public Health is pleased and proud to have been selected to host one of the northwest Ohio mass vaccination clinics in Lima. Starting in early April, we will be receiving additional doses of vaccine on top of what is already coming into our area so that we can more quickly reduce the risk of COVID. This is a major undertaking for our agency and it would not be possible without the support of volunteers.

While we have great volunteers, we will need even more for this eight-week operation. Please consider signing up to be part of our Medical Reserve Corps. You don’t have to have a health or medical background to participate. Just go to our website, allencountypublichealth.org and click on “Medical Reserve Corps” under the Emergency Preparedness tab. Whether you volunteer or not, and whether you come to our Allen County Public Health vaccine clinic or go elsewhere, I encourage everyone to get a COVID vaccine when it’s your turn. This is a major piece in our road to recovery – and we need everyone to do their part to help stop the pandemic. Thanks for doing your part, Vigil.

Kathy Luhn, Health Commissioner

Allen County Public Health
