Letter: We watched true heroes

To say thank you to our local fire departments just isn’t enough. As the owner of Grove Insurance Services, I watched you first hand put yourselves on the line to save our building during the fire in downtown Columbus Grove on November 20th. Your actions helped preserve our newly renovated building, in which we put a lot of time and energy into.

There were times throughout that night that we were sure that our building would also fall victim to the horrible fire, yet your dedication and heroism saved it. You bravely went into our building during the fire as well to help carry out not only business related materials, but also personal items such as Christmas presents for my son. While items can be replaced, and that was the least of our worries, you still took the time and effort to make sure those items were saved just in case our building also went down.

We feel very fortunate as our damage is minor, and it pales in comparison to the neighboring businesses. Our heart goes out to those business owners, and we promise that we will be there to help in any that we can. Columbus Grove is a strong community, one in which I am proud to be not only a business owner in, but also a lifelong resident. We are proud to be raising our son as a Bulldog.

So again, to all of the first responders, volunteers, and countless others: Thank You. To the fire departments that helped, including Columbus Grove, Kalida, Pandora, Ottawa, Glandorf, Fort Jennings, Ottoville, Bluffton, Cairo, Beaverdam, and American Township, we are forever indebted to you. You are heroes watching over our community.

Sincerely,

Aaron & Erica Siefker, Craig Schmenk, and Cindy Fortman

Columbus Grove
