Letter: Opinions a joy to read

With a month until the “Historic” 2020 election takes place, I would like to thank The Lima News for the service you provide. My Sunday, Oct. 4, Opinion section was as informative as it was professional.

First, I was pleased with the Michael Reagan viewpoint. No matter what side your on, you get nothing from a debate that was as unprofessional as it was. Either side wants to hear opinion, strategies, plans, and platforms. I agree. Shut up and let your opponent fail on his own if you feel he’s not up to the job.

For John Pilarowski’s letter, “Getting what we deserve,” I want to thank him for giving the JFK quote. At 63, I barely remember the loss of a great leader. Of all his quotes I remember, I don’t recall ever hearing the strong quote that John provided us. As it stated, it’s not Democrat or Republican. It’s what’s right. We need to base more on what we, as individuals, know to be right. Not what anyone else tells us is right.

Finally, thank you Terry Knebel for your letter. It seems like every election there is reason for people to call, “foul”. If it’s “chads” or double punches on ballets, lost or miscounted ballets, early or election day ballots. There’s always a reason for doubt. If you question how lower popular votes win an election, explore the Electoral College. For those that forget, Alexander Hamilton was one of our founding fathers, not a “shady’ attorney from New Jersey. He wrote the Federalist paper 68. Read it.
