Letter: Facts about Electoral College

With the recent letters stating opinions on the Electoral College, I once again am compelled to provide the following facts from the 2016 election:

1. In California the state with the most electoral votes at 55, each electoral vote represented 240,683 popular votes.

2. In Wyoming the least populous of the six states with the minimum of three electoral votes each one represented 81,226 popular votes.

3. In Michigan each of its 16 electoral votes represented 284,273 popular votes.

4. Each of Georgia’s 16 electoral votes represented 247,941 popular votes.

5. Each of Ohio’s 18 electoral votes represented 290,842 popular votes.

Additionally, anyone offering an opinion on the electoral college needs to read Federalist paper 68 written by Alexander Hamilton. In particular the 3rd paragraph outlines the purpose of the Electoral College.
