Letter: Lima’s outdoor classroom of life

In Europe they called it a “plaza.” In Lima we call it the “Town Square.”

The function of this central meeting place differs in each location. With the Lima Square Fair, Rally in the Square, National Night Out, parades, etc., we can see that our Square is well used in multiple ways.

Perhaps the best use is what I see each time I pass through the Square. People eating, talking, visiting, meeting new people, etc. It is good to see human interaction in our Town Square; a place to exchange pleasantries, information, ideas, feelings, etc.

Would Lima be better without a Town Square? I don’t think so. As in Europe, it is nice to have a place that encourages a free flow of ideas and conversation.

Could you call it an “outdoor classroom of life?”

I would!

George H. Haver, Lima
