Henry A. Wallace, the vice president to Franklin Roosevelt, wrote an op-ed in 1944 in the New York times. He was describing Fascism and whether we have Fascists in the United States. The following statement from his article sounds eerily like the situation we currently have in this country.
“The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public, but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power.”
Donald Trump is a direct result of the inaction of Democrats to put out a message that appeals to a broad middle class. Democrats are portrayed as defenders of minorities, the underserved, LGTBQ , and those of low economic status. And while this is true, Democrats have always stood for unions, fair wages, a fair tax code, public education and affordable healthcare, to name a few. But the party has been labeled, much by a media, that only wants to focus on those minority issues as the Democratic issues. When will we see an honest discussion of these bread and butter topics in the media?
Voters were fooled into thinking Trump would clean the swamp that is Washington, yet he seems to be filling it up. We have more corrupt government officials than I have ever seen, and the Republican Congress stands idly by.
We must retake control of government and stand up against this president. History will not treat us well, if we do not.
