Lima steps up to help students

I was overwhelmed by the attendance and the show of support for the Lima City Schools’ inaugural Back to School Celebration at Martin Luther King Park.

It was an event that could not have been possible without the many who partnered with us both by collecting school supplies, donating food and volunteering at the event.

Our faith community came out strong collecting supplies. Thanks to Grace Community Church, Lima Community Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, Lima Baptist Temple, Lima First Assembly of God and the Black Ministerial Alliance.

The Salvation Army and Neighborhood Relief collected supplies and had a presence at our event. Many thanks to those who collected supplies for the Salvation Army: the Lima Mall, New Country 92.1 the Frog, JC Penney, Menards, Perry proTech, Anytime Fitness and Market Street Presbyterian Church.

All of our food was donated by local businesses. Thanks to Gordon Food Service, Rightway Food Service, Western Sizzlin, Nickles Bakery, Pepsico/Frito Lay and Reiter Dairy.

Thanks to all those churches and agency volunteers, parents and staff of the Lima City Schools who helped us in so many ways at the celebration. We also appreciate iHeartMedia for providing the 93.9 KISS FM truck and music.

This event was a total community effort that helped so many of our students and families. Another reason we are proud to be a part of this great city and community.
