Sanity lost atWhite House

The actions of the president of the United States in his first week in office have fallen to the depths only matched by “The Trail of Tears,” the massacre of Native Americans at Wounded Knee, the refusal of entry, in 1939, of the ship, St. Louis carrying Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi tyranny, and the “confinement” of Japanese Americans — many of them U. S. citizens — in Internment Camps during WWII.

We lives in a world where “alternate facts” rule. President Trump has managed to antagonize our neighbor to the south, a major world wide religion, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the intelligence agencies of our government.

The only reason he can’t be called a liar is that a “lie” is something that one knows to be untrue and it is told with the intent to deceive. In Trump’s world of privilege, he actually believes that he knows more about ISIS than his generals, that he can sexually assault any woman without consequences, or that he could shoot someone in Times Square and not lose one vote.

He has surrounded himself with like-minded people or at least compliant individuals. The Republican majorities in Congress appear to be allowing him free rein, at least until Mr. Trumps Alternate Universe collides with the real world.

Until sanity returns to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, status quo, otherwise known as gridlock (another form of failure) will, hopefully be, our least distasteful future. Elections are less than two years away.
