Letter: Megafarm still can be stopped

On behalf of the Spencerville Citizens Against Factory farms my name is Steve Simindinger. I am writing you today to inform your readers of the progress of our fight against the 2.2 million egg laying mega farm proposed in our community by Pine Valley Ranch. The Farm has received its permit to install and operate. Bad news for our community, but more fuel to the fire to make us fight even harder. A handful of these operators have been stopped even after they have received their permits and we hope the same is true for this one.

Our Organization is comprised of many local citizens and local farmers as well. We are not opposed to family farming; we just don’t believe we need a mega farm in our community possibly causing severe damage to our way of life.

Through extensive research we have been informed that Mr. Rindler, one of the investors in this farm, has donated a large amount of money to one of his community projects. We cannot understand why he would do something like this for his community and propose something so terrible for our community. It’s like we are the lesser people, here in little Monticello, then those in his own town.

In summary, I would like to thank all that took the time to read this article and ask you all to pray for us here in Monticello. All we ask is to be able to go on living our lives how we have for so many years without the threat of so many issues that go along with an operation of this size.

Thank You

Steve Simindinger, Spencerville
