Letter: Animal groups very deserving

Most people don’t realize the amount of time, love and dedication that goes into reuniting lost pets with their owners or finding new homes for abandoned animals. Recently, a runaway dog found his way to our property and when I was unable to catch him after he had been loose for five weeks, I contacted Debbie Helser of Deb’s Dogs. Debbie delivered a huge live trap right to my door and helped me set it up. She even stopped by Burger King to get a fragrant treat to bait the trap!

Once the dog was finally captured in a neighbor’s garage, Deb was right there to take charge of the situation. The Dog Warden’s office was closed, but she got Tim Bly on the phone and he came over, on his own time, to leash the dog and take him to a safe, warm place right away.

The dog’s owners are known, but they have decided not to claim him. His story has been widely publicized through social media, and he will hopefully have the forever home that he deserves very soon.

People like Deb and Tim and organizations such as Deb’s Dogs and the Allen County Dog Warden as well as the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society, Angels for Animals, Cats Haven and other rescue organizations are working around the clock with very little funding or publicity. If you ever find yourself in the position of being able to make a donation to a worthwhile organization, please help these people. They do amazing work and they deserve our support.
