Letter: ‘Senseless’ gun violence actually makes sense

Youths’ “senseless” gun violence, described as such by professional adults at Thursday night’s “Gun Violence Forum,” ain’t so “senseless.”

As explained in one teenager’s interrogation transcript from a case I’m familiar with, he carried a fake gun for self-protection, as did I who, as a young teenager 60 years ago in central Kansas, carried a starting pistol for the same reason. For that, he is serving decades in prison.

The adults’ inability, stupidity, bigotry, sadism and cowardliness, illustrated by Ohio’s increasingly lax gun laws, make it quite sensible to youth to carry firearms, fake or real, which, if caught, are cause for incarceration, especially if Black, for refusing to be sitting ducks in a society which cares little for that which ain’t “mine.”

There’s a lot of crocodile tears and wringing of hands from those adults fearing themselves to be possible collateral damage in this state of laissez-faire security, some being the same soulless supporters of sending missiles and munitions to be dropped on those thousands of innocents living in the euphemistically called “Holy Land.”
