Letter: How do we keep our kids safe?

Are our children safe in our neighborhoods?

My seven-year-old was jumped on a bike by a group of girls, and one of them pulled her off her bike into the street while beating her in the head. I rushed home from work and called the cops, not knowing the severity of the assault.

I pressed charges, and now I am being told that because there was no witness on my daughter’s behalf, no charges were pressed by the prosecutor’s office. Where do parents go from here?
