Letter: Republican defenders on wrong track

Decoding Mr Figley’s racist tripe: I find it intolerable that the descendants of slaves have accumulated and are enjoying enormous wealth.

How dare these blacks ascend above their station? I have no recall of the Trump defender voicing complaints over the affluence of Caucasians, though perhaps he has mentioned the Jewish Mr. Soros, who would, to the bigoted, also be fair game.

Onto the successes of the GOP, history tells us that since 1933, annual average GDP growth was 4.6% under Democratic presidents and 2.4% under Republican presidents. The only presidents that have lowered the deficit in the last 50 years have been Democrats. Of the seven presidents with the highest job creation rates since 1945, six were Democrats. Seven of the 10 most impoverished states in the U.S. elected GOP governors.

The prescient Ralph Waldo Emerson must have foreseen Trump when he stated. “The louder he talked of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons.”

As for those continuing to support Trump regardless of criminality, the cult leader is never wrong.
