Letter: Issue 1 part of pattern of corruption

The two groups that led the movement against Issue 1 were a physicians’ consortium and a coalition of women’s rights groups. The other 57% were citizens aghast that corrupt politicians would take away the One Person One Vote rule here in Ohio.

Every major newspaper in Ohio had extensive articles calling out Senate President Matt Huffman and Secretary of State Frank LaRose. Issue 1 was another attempt to limit our democracy. Using $15.9 million from out-of-state influence peddlers was over the top with virtual lies in their advertising.

I had someone call me and ask if the issue really would affect farming prices. She went on to ask about transgender manipulation, drag queens reading books to Elida students, something about litter boxes and other conspiracy theories. She said all of that was in a mailer she got recently. I set her straight and told her to take off her bonnet and call her community and explain things better.

We are weary of corruption but will be vigilant in the fight to protect our Democracy. Sadly the power grab points back here to Allen County, to Matt Huffman. Years ago it was public union dismantling, which was defeated. Then it was public school defunding, and the charter schools are now rewarded $7,000 per child. Now it’s $20 million for a sham issue. All of this and more are brought to you by a legislature that disobeyed the Ohio Supreme Court five times when they gerrymandered the political maps. Wait until they draw the maps again and write more demeaning Women’s Rights laws.
