Letter: Newspaper offering fewer chances to help its readers

In mid-May The Lima News began newspaper delivery to homes twice a week, which took away many people’s daily enjoyment of local, state and national news, as well as various puzzles and classified ads.

Since this new development, if you are not a computer user you don’t have daily obituaries, which many people read and depend on for visitation purposes or knowedge of death.

Many things have been left out of the sports pages in the last year, including the NCAA college basketball final game and no article about the recent baseball All Star Game with comments about Eias Diaz winning the MVP at 32 years old in his first All Star game.

There have been several occasions when grocery ads have not been included, which I have used for years.

Some people don’t have computers for various reason, including the elderly who don’t use them.

I will miss the work ethic of former editor David Trinko, who was a lifetime newspaper man since graduating college. Did he see the handwriting on the wall?

The most recent thing that occurred was going to all-mail delivery. I had a wonderful delivery man who put the newspaper right where it was requested and answered phone calls regarding late newspapers. He had nine routes because of working less days per week. Now he has none.

Finally, over the years many newspaper delivery people could report elderly clients who were not picking up newspapers on their porch or reported fires in the delivery neighborhood. So, just one more way of not having help in emergencies.
