Letter: Cable billing practices are terrible

On July 7, I decided to cancel my TV cable due to the high cost. I turned in my two receiver boxes. I then called a couple of days later to see what my bill was. The only reduction was the rental fee for the boxes.

My bill runs from July 1 to July 31. I’m still being charged for the TV service through the end of the month even though I don’t have that service. Their explanation was that I already received the bill and they don’t prorate. I guess that’s legalized theft.

I went back to their office and ask why this wasn’t explained to me. His response: “I did.” That was a lie. I asked why this can’t be prorated, and his response: He’s “there for sales, not billing.” So this is another example of why this monopoly needs to be eliminated, or, I hate to say, the government needs to review these business practices.
