On Aug. 8, Ohioans will be asked to approve Issue 1 which requires a 60% majority from voters to approve any further constitutional amendments made to Ohio’s Constitution.
Voting yes on this issue is good for Ohio rather than a simple majority of 50% plus one.
Voting yes means that it will be harder to change the Ohio Constitution because 50% plus one makes it easier for outside interests to change Ohio.
Fifty percent plus one is called a democracy which always ends in tyranny for the people because the minority has little representation. A bigger number ensures that we remain a republic and gives the minority a voice by ensuring that 60% is required to change Ohio’s Constitution. The Ohio Constitution should never be changed on a whim by outsiders. The United States Constitution requires 66.6% vote by members of Congress in order to change it.
It is important to note that this is also why the Electoral College should not be abolished for a simple majority either. The Electoral College gives smaller states with less population a way to make sure they are not out-voted by larger states in elections rather than a one person-one vote rule some are pushing for in Ohio and the rest of the country.
Please vote yes for Issue 1, because Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are working to legalize abortion up until birth without parental consent.
