Letter: August Issue 1: A solution looking for a problem?

Are we looking for a solution to a problem we don’t have? Since 1913 (110 years ago) when it was put in Ohio’s constitution about constitutional amendments, mostly to keep the politicians from being crooked, there have been 227 amendments put on the ballot. Seventy-one of these amendments were citizen-initiated. Only 19 passed, with 11 reaching the 60% threshold.

That is approximately a 27% rate of passage; not very high. Our legislators put 156 initiatives on the ballot, with 107 passing. That’s over 69% passage rate.

As of this writing, I haven’t decided to vote yes or no. I will not listen to a bunch of people telling me how to vote. I will study the issue further and decide how I’m going to vote. I urge everyone to please study the issue with Issue 1 and vote.

Again, are we letting politicians tell us how to vote?

I certainly hope not.
