Letter: Issue 1 shuts out people, not the special interests

Susan Manchester says that voting yes on Issue 1 is about getting special interests out of Ohio politics. Sounds good, right?

Don’t believe her.

Issue 1 isn’t about shutting out special interests. It’s about shutting out the people.

For more than 100 years, the Ohio Constitution has enshrined majority rule. Ballot initiatives pass with 50%, plus one vote. But Issue 1 would trash that right. Initiatives would need 60% of the vote, and 41% of the voters would control everyone else.

Issue 1 is about power – not for the people, but for the corrupt politicians in Columbus. They’ve already gerrymandered their supermajority in the legislature, and now they want control of the ballot initiatives.

And here’s the kicker: The biggest individual donor to the “vote yes” campaign is Dick Uhlein, an out-of-state billionaire who funds special interests!

Don’t be fooled. Vote to keep majority rule and your voice in Ohio politics. Vote no on Issue 1.
