Letter: Cooper Davis Act a good first step

My son, Jordan Garmatter, died April 6, 2019, from illicit fentanyl poisoning. Jordan was a wonderful son and young man, and he didn’t want to die. My heart is forever broken and my life has forever changed, as the grief of losing a child is so very overwhelming. The pain never goes away.

Many people and now children are dying from fake fentanyl pills or powder, and they got it mostly from drug dealers who openly operate on social media platforms.

• The Cooper Davis Act does not obligate social media platforms to scan their services for drug dealers, nor does it penalize them if they fail to find the drug dealing.

• The Cooper Davis Act does not obligate social media platforms to report to the DEA if they do not moderate content.

This is a good start to help in ending the No. 1 cause of death in America today.

I hope our state senators will support the Cooper Davis Act.
