Letter: Say no to fuzzy math and HJR1

Only in gerrymandered Ohio are state senators and house members serving in office who are so lousy at math and loose with taxpayer money.

The “fast-tracked” HJR1 Bill being shoved down the throats of the citizens of Ohio is a travesty that ushers in “minority rule.” Citizens, in the process of garnering the required number of signatures on a legal petition and are jumping through all the hoops to get a ballot initiative in the hands of the Ohio voters, will get the goalposts moved in mid-game.

Unnecessarily spending $20 million in taxpayer’s money for a special election to change a simple majority rule to a 60 percent threshold for passage of an initiative should anger all Ohioans. It would allow 41 percent of the voters to nullify 59 percent of the electorate. When I went to school, I was taught that 59 is more than 41!

Call your state representatives. HJR1 should never become law.
