Letter: Levy would keep parks serving community

I am expressing my support for the renewal levy. The parks district operates within its means and is fiscally responsible, but parks need to be sustained through maintenance, renovations and additions of new features. The park district is a partner to the community through conservation benefits of habitats and wildlife.

All the parks are open daily throughout the entire year. They are clean, safe parks for the community. The park provides positive mental and physical health for citizens. My family spends quality time together in the parks, enjoying peaceful meals and exercise throughout the year. We were blessed to have our parks open during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Programming is top-notch when it comes to nature and cultural education. State curriculums are met through education programming. I have been an elementary educator in Allen County for the last 18 years and have partnered with the park district to enhance learning for my students.

Annually, our third-grade students at Spencerville have had the opportunity to travel back in time to the 1840s to spend a day in life as a pioneer. Naturalist Beth Theisen visits our school biannually and presents a game traveling back in time and provides mealworms for our life cycle study. All events and activities are paid for through the park district. This allows students in Allen County to have their education turned into a real and authentic hands-on experience.

Your support for this levy will allow the Allen County students to continue this amazing opportunity by partnering with schools to increase students’ knowledge and exposure in science and social studies content areas.
