The Lima News recently printed a story called, “Lima wants you to review trash rules,” on March 26th, in which the city hopes to correct what it calls “bad behaviors.” I hope that the city takes a hard look at the ultimate goal — a cleaner community.
Unfortunately, not all of our trash ends up in bins. Tires, cans, discarded Christmas trees, and lots of other former treasures end up in alleys, rivers, and wooded areas. For years City Wide Pride has brought together residents from every neighborhood, church, race, and creed to clean up Lima. A great deal of planning goes into this effort, and typically information for participants comes in February. Unfortunately, this year seems to be the exception. Neighborhood associations ready to prepare for the big annual cleanup have heard little more than spring crickets regarding the effort. It is my sincere hope and belief that City Wide Pride planning is coming together, and the neighborhood associations who provide much of the labor will be contacted soon.
In the meantime, there are ways we can keep Lima clean and work together.
I want to encourage everyone to participate in the upcoming neighborhood cleanups happening every Saturday in the month of April.
