This spring, our state and country are poised to make a difference in every U.S. citizen’s life.
House Bill 1834 and Senate Bill Medicare X Choice Act would provide healthcare for all. Given the pandemic, our wasteful and inefficient means of providing or denying care for millions is obvious. Approximately 30 million people in the U.S. do not have health care, despite the existence of the Affordable Care Act.
These bills would provide quality, affordable and comprehensive care to citizens. 95% of working families would save money by having a streamlined and comprehensive system. Currently, approximately 40 million Americans remain underinsured. Medicare for All would also provide prescription drug coverage, dental, hearing and long-term care. People would still be able to have their choice of physicians, hospitals and clinics.
Medicare for All would allow businesses and employers to save money as well as not require the business to cope with the hassles of negotiating with unions and private insurers for health insurance coverage.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the problems with a profit-first Health Care system which allow the virus to spread while hospitals are left scrambling to make decisions about putting off routine procedures and lay off staff due to the pandemic.
Our system needs an overhaul! This is an opportunity to provide care to people, it is an opportunity to streamline a system that is woefully inadequate and jeopardizes many. This is a time for people to let their representative know that we need to change the way healthcare is done in this country. It is shameful that in this great country, one of the richest countries in the world, our health care system is inadequate.
