Letter: Solar farm objections

This is the time of the year to bring out the list of subjects to be avoided at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Politics and religion used to be at the top of the list. Today we can add green energy.

Whenever green energy is brought up, it seems that there are only extreme views. Look at the proposal to add a solar farm to the Allen-Auglaize County area. Why does that have to include the extreme view of destroying valuable farmland?

Back in General Science we learned that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed. We learned that sunlight falling on the earth’s surface caused the earth to warm. As we continue to cover the earth with manmade objects will we deprive the earth of that warmth? Have you looked at how much of Allen County is under roof already?

Isn’t it time to look at ways to double dip? How much acreage is under roof at Ford? How much of a solar farm would that make? How about all the new warehouse space being built? How hard would it be to add a solar roof? It is possible to have a large solar farm without destroying valuable farmland.

Think outside the box. What about a floating solar farm on Bressler Lake?
