Letter: Bath: A neighbor needs your vote

Bath township voters are being asked to vote for or against an overlay/rezoning of Lost Creek. Lost Creek is a well-established neighborhood where people are raising families, just starting out as first time homeowners and seniors enjoying their golden years.

With groceries, restaurants and other commercial businesses lining Harding Highway, across the street from Lost Creek, the residents have fought for years to keep their area residential. The Lost Creek neighborhood was established long before the first business was built on Harding Highway. If passed, 47 homes would be in the area that could be rezoned – not just homes on Harding Highway, but a total of 47 homes! The overlay/rezoning line zigzags across yards, and if rezoned, businesses would build right next to existing homes.

Beer Barrel had the right idea. They elected to go a little further east and build in an area already zoned for business. For voters who think the overlay is good for the township, I ask if it were your neighborhood, would you want commercial business building next to your home? I wish those same people would have attended the township meetings where this issue was discussed. At one of the meetings a gentleman spoke who worked in acquisition for Federated Department stores (Lazarus). He said when Federated wanted to purchase land they always said their building would not have any impact on the surrounding neighborhood. But, he said, it always impacted the surrounding area – and not in a good way.

Please think of the many Bath residents in Lost Creek and Vote NO on the overlay/rezoning of Lost Creek.

Judy Poling, Bath Township
