If you care about justice or if you love real-life courtroom drama, I would strongly encourage you to purchase a copy of the book, “The Strange Case of Dr. Wine,” by Brice Brenneman. My brother wound up being wrongfully convicted of committing the crime of gross sexual imposition against his mother-in-law, a crime he didn’t commit. How could it happen? When you read the book, play special attention to the information about the polygraph test and how that was used in this Auglaize County trial in 2011. Doug reluctantly took the test at my urging (something for which I deeply regret). That one piece of bogus evidence is what caused the jury to convict him based on post-trial interviews of the jury. Sound crazy? Read the book and you will learn the whole story. It is available for $10 on eBay.
One more important piece of information that you will never see published is Doug’s response over these last 9 years. As a deeply devoted follower of Jesus, Doug tutored inmates while in prison, encouraged and prayed for those with whom he came in contact. He has continued to serve others since he was released. His family loves and supports him. Doug is living proof that God can redeem terrible circumstances and while we know that there will be justice as we stand before the ultimate Judge, it would be great if we could see the real truth come out in this life. I am praying for that outcome.
