The Los Angeles Times editorial published in The Lima News concerning the Atlanta shooting of Rayshard Brooks is very timely . One could quote some relevant lines about making improvements in police accountability, but the fact remains police instinct seems to be “shoot first, ask questions later” — where does this ASAP, or as my father-in-law often said; “on the DO” (damn quickly)! … arise in our society?
I have looked at the scene of this tragic affair over and over. Here we have a quite normal police call about a man passed out at a drive thru window. We observe the two policeman politely getting the man to move the car and a long conversation before the guy cuts loose and runs! For goodness sake let the man run! You have his $20,000 car right there beside you. Impound it! The man will come crawling back for his car and still have his life. At least you have his driver’s license.
Why the rush to judgement?
