Letter: Now is time for change

The Lima Area Black Ministerial Alliance we are brokenhearted and angered by the injustice that caused the senseless death of George Floyd in Minnesota. We cannot stay silent about the systemic racism, misconduct by law enforcement and other injustices that has plagued the minority community for so long. The LABMA, we strongly support those that are engaged in peaceful protest and marching in order for their voices to be heard. It is our First Amendment right to demand change. This country was founded on protest and was never designed to make people feel comfortable. But it was designed to invoke substantial change!

James Baldwin said, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced,” We can never fix a system that was never designed for “Justice for all.” It must be torn down and rebuilt in order for it to be relevant.

“We must stand in solidarity with one another. We must continue to work with compassion until justice is served. And we must commit to eradicate racism in all its forms withier it’s in our political system, judicial system or educational system etc. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr once said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Now is time to make change but it’s not the time to sit on the sidelines and remain silent!

Pastor Dr. Dennis Ward, Lima
