Preservationists of the world’s endangered species of animals is one of the biggest problems that our world is experiencing. Yet, in the midst of all the difficulties, there have been many stories of wildlife conservation success in our country.
The American alligator was almost hunted to extinction for its skins, but has since been removed from the endangered species list due to vigorously conservation efforts. The gray wolf was almost extermimated entirely, but, many efforts, including reintroduction back into Yellowstone Park, have brought wolves back from the brink of extinction. The bison has recovered from years of over hunting by humans. The black-footed ferret has been successfully breeding in captivity, and many are being reintroduced to the wild. Even our national bird, the bald eagle, was saved by our efforts, particularly the ban on DDT and other pesticides went into effect.
All of these stories of the successful conservation of some of America’s most iconic animals can serve as beacons of hope for wildlife conservation.
