Letter: The situation we are in right now

After looking at the results of the last presidential election, it is understandable why many voters decided to give a huge middle finger to the political establishment when casting their vote.

Look at the choices available. The establishment candidate had accumulated so much negative baggage that it created a void that many voters saw as an opportunity to throw caution to the wind and vote for someone with zero political experience. If the people that made that choice really understood how our government works, they may have thought differently.

And before anyone challenges the fact that the current White House occupant has no experience, there is no comparison between having run a business and thinking that that experience could correlate to working in the political arena.

Just look at the situation we are in right now. Our current president promised many things during the campaign and then did just the opposite, or nothing at all, once he was elected. Has anyone received the $4,000 that was promised? Where is the great healthcare that was supposed to replace the Affordable Care Act? When is the price of prescription drugs going to be “so much cheaper, it’ll make our heads spin”? Where’s all the good-paying jobs that were promised? When is the country’s infrastructure going to be fixed? Where’s our great tax cut? If anyone has received any tax cut at all, it’s being eaten up by the ever increasing price of gas.

What supporters of the president may be seeing now, but not admitting, is that many of them bought into a marketing genius’ slick, snake oil salesman’s pitch that there were nothing but good times ahead if they supported him in the election. The rest of us are still waiting.
