Letter: Have it good and don’t know it

As a four-million mile trucker who has run this whole country and about every town and city, I can tell you this: The people of Lima have no idea what is costs to live in other areas of this country.

Property taxes alone on the coasts are anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 a year! The price of apartment rental: $1,500 to $2,000 a month is considered normal!

So it shouldn’t have been a big deal when our local officials asked for a small sales-tax increases to pay for infrastructure improvements. We truckers beg our government to raise taxes on gasoline and diesel to fix our roads and bridges. They haven’t raised taxes on fuels since 1993! Not a single penny! Tolls have went up 400 percent in that time. Pay tolls to use the infrastructure. President Trump since he is from New York understands Tolls since when you walk out the door you pay tolls on the East Coast! Only people who pay the toll is the ones that use them. They should charge a toll on all gas purchases to pay for road and bridge repairs.

We folks in Lima have it good and just don’t know it.
