Letter: Huffman’s background similar to Cheney

Lost in the shuffle of the upcoming judicial election for Common Pleas Court Judge is the impending retirement from the bench of Judge David A. Cheney.

As a resident of Allen County, a 40 year veteran of the bar and past president of the bar association, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Judge Cheney for his service to Allen County.

At the same time I would remind everyone that Judge Cheney came from the private practice of law after a long and distinguished career to serve a single term on the bench. To my knowledge he never defended or prosecuted a felony case in the Common Pleas Court before becoming Judge.

That broad background in civil litigation has served him well in hearing and deciding both civil and criminal cases during his tenure. This same recipe for judicial expertise is available to the voters of Allen County on May 8 with a vote for Lawrence Huffman for Judge.
