Letter: Stand up for O-G schools

Vote “YES” for OG Schools

I make it a habit to read the “Titan Tradition” mailed to our homes. I paid special attention to the Financial Outlook and articles by Don Horstman in each issue. They have been sharing the reasons for the increase in costs to the school district: College Credit Plus, Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN), Autism Scholarship Program (ASP). These three programs mandated by the state are projected to add $150,000 in expenses to the 2017-18 school year, not to mention the effect the ACA bill that passed congress a few years ago.

Premiums increased 5 percent in 2014, 7 percent in 2015, 16 percent in 2016 and 30 percent in 2017 and 15 percent and 2018. All these programs passed by law where well intended but, have been very costly to the school district. Our past and current school boards and administration teams have done and continue to be great stewards of the monies they oversee. The teachers and all the support staff in O-G school system have been giving our students a top-notch education preparing them for life after High School.

OGHS was rated 73 in Ohio (private and public) by Cleveland.com. Great job to all involved.

Please take the time to visit OGHS web site: ottawaglandorf.org. Get informed and read the FAQ about the need for a 1 percent income tax to fund our school district. I’m not a fan of voting myself an increase in taxes, however, our school district as shown itself to be worthy of my trust and support. Please join me May 8th in voting for our students, our two communities, and our school district and vote yes.
