Letter: Cordray an easy choice for Dems

Richard Cordray graduated from the University of Chicago Law School; he clerked for two U.S. Supreme Court Justices: Byron White and Anthony Kennedy. He received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and was awarded a Master’s degree from Oxford University.

He has served as both Treasurer and Attorney General of the State of Ohio.

As Ohio Treasurer he protected taxpayer funds, managed the state’s bonded debt and investment accounts, expanded job growth by supporting small businesses with reduced interest loans, and spearheaded financial literacy programs to empower Ohioans.

As Ohio Attorney General he worked to hold Wall Street accountable by recovering more than $2 billion for Ohio’s public teachers and retirees who were victims of fraud and financial predators. The Better Business Bureau recognized him with an award for his work on behalf of Ohio businesses and consumers for greater fairness in the marketplace.

Over the last five years, Cordray served as the first-ever director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a position where he led an agency that was launched in the aftermath of the nation’s financial crisis, dedicated to defending families against Wall Street and corporate abuse. The CFPB brought actions against some of the nation’s largest financial institutions, collecting nearly $12 billion for over 30 million Americans who were cheated or mistreated.

Richard Cordray is a very honest person whose integrity and dedicated spirit will represent Ohio well. I am proud to support Richard Cordray and encourage all to vote for him on May 8th for Governor on the Democratic ballot.
