State would pay50% of Elida school

On May 8th the residents of Elida School district will have the opportunity to approve the final piece of the school facilities update. Passing the bond issue will approve the construction of a new elementary school to be built on the same location of the current building. The current facility no longer meets the needs of the students. Improved and increased learning spaces, eliminate the free standing modular buildings, better security, efficient utilities, and significantly reduced maintenance are just a few of the many reasons for this project to be implemented.

The State of Ohio will pay more than 50 per cent of the project cost. Where else can you get this large of a discount?

Some may suggest that the current building be renovated. Any major changes will require the existing building be upgraded to meet new requirements including ADA access, elevators, etc. In addition it will not be possible to make the existing building energy efficient. The new building resolves all of the existing problems. When the cost of repairs exceeds 60 percent, all experts recommend total replacement. This rule applies to all commercial buildings. The state matching money is not available for changes to the existing building.

I share your concerns about increased taxes and am also a retiree with limited income. I also will have no children or grandchildren that will benefit from this project. Others have supported our family education and I feel it is my responsibility to pass this support forward.

Please join me and others and vote “YES” for Elida Schools on May 8th. John Bos 4996 Hummingbird Elida, Ohio
