Letter: Elida levy too much

Well, here we go again ! The ”Big Dawgs” of Elida school district (the superintendent, the treasurer and the school board) are trying, once again, to convince us, the taxpayers, that they need more of our money so the kids can have a “quality” education! I take issue with the proposed tax levy and bond issues coming at us in the voting booth:

• The last time I looked, the board said they did not have a “definite plan” for the new school, thus, I assume they do not know the exact costs! It’s kind of like Nancy Pelosi saying, “We won’t know what’s in the Affordable Care Act until we pass the bill!”

• Has there been extensive and thorough research done on the cost of remodeling the existing structure, or perhaps adding on, as opposed to building a new school?

• A new school does not ensure a quality education! LCC, for example, has a 60-year-old building and one of the highest, if not the highest, graduation rates in the area!

• If you own a $100,000 home, your property tax will increase approximately $115 per year for 30 years.

I urge you to vote no on the Elida tax levy and bond issue!!
