Letter: In good hands moving forward

I read with interest that William White was inducted into the OHSAA Hall of Fame during the high school basketball tournament in Columbus. Several years ago I sat in front of William during an Ohio State – Michigan State football game on a cold Saturday afternoon in East Lansing. Although I didn’t know him, we talked and had a good time amid all the Spartan fans. I discovered later it was William, the famous Senior Spartan, OSU Buckeye, Atlanta Falcon, Lima guy. What made that Saturday afternoon worth remembering wasn’t all of his achievements; it was just him, a good, friendly person (Buckeye fan) along with us and the kids!

Congratulations William, well deserved!

I fast forward to the youth we now have representing our community and congratulate them, not so much for their athletic achievements, but for being good people who represent us well. I’m not sure if they realize their impact on us, but it is real. It may have been a pleasant conversation in the YMCA locker room with a skinny Bath sophomore basketball player Terrance Sullivan, seeing Xavier Simpson grow up, finding him in the UNOH gym early one summer morning last year with a couple other guys, walking the halls with Dakota Mathias and Chris Adams, possibly talking to a very proud grandparent Ed Kimbrough of Martyce’s upcoming graduation with his communications degree, or possibly connecting with Tyler O’Connor now in Chicago doing quite with the Heinz Company.

I offer a hearty congratulation to the kids, the parents and all the adults responsible for them. We all support them – then, now and into the future. I think we’re in good hands looking forward!
