Letter: Sandy MacDonell a man well worth remembering

There has been a passing. Many things are passing, especially time. As this time passes, it leads us to the end of the road. And when we step beyond “the end of the road,” indeed, we find another road to follow.

Mr. Sandy MacDonell has found his end of the road, and he has stepped beyond this end. But the real question is what has he left behind. Of course, he has left the usual things: family, worldly possessions and things that no longer matter.

However, the most important thing he left behind is our knowing of him! That does not go away. Many people will treasure him in a very personal way. And, again, that does not go away. I read a small book, and in it I found this: “They may forget what you said, but they will not forget how you made them feel.”

Mr. Sandy MacDonell said many things to many people, words! Mr. Sandy MacDonell made many people feel special. In a conversation with him, all you had to do was to watch his eyes. He had a way of making you feel that your words were important and special. Therefore, he made you feel important and special. As the conversation ended, you walked away and took a part of Sandy MacDonell with you!

Other people will write about Sandy’s accomplishments. I am sure the list will be very long. I do not need to do that. I need to assure you that if you met Mr. Sandy MacDonell, you would remember your feeling of being important and special.

Here is a special man worthy of our respect, our remembering and our praise. Thank you, Mr. Sandy MacDonell, for the pleasure of having known you!

George H. Haver
