Letter: Berger’s been on front liness

Hopefully the voters of Lima will vote for Dave Berger for Mayor of Lima.

While his opponent “talks” about issues that he has never really dealt with, Dave Berger has been on the front line dealing with those issues and finding solutions to the real problems that have presented themselves.

When the issue was the national economic recession of 2008, Dave Berger found ways to sustain city services without layoffs in the police and fire departments that many other cities found necessary.

When British Petroleum threatened to close the refinery (not in the city) and everyone else believed it was a done deal, Dave Berger stood up, challenged the notion of closing, and then carried the load of finding a buyer. Hundreds of good paying jobs were saved and the complex has grown. Dave Berger also has been a leader in saving jobs at the tank plant.

Dave Berger’s tireless efforts to protect and grow Lima’s economy are proof he has the experience our city needs in its mayor. Over 1,000 jobs are going unfilled today in Lima and Allen County. We must not abandon experienced leadership for untested promises.

Dave Berger has earned my vote, and I urge Lima voters to remember all that Dave has accomplished when they vote.

Richard Meredith, Lima
