Letter: Trump, supporters need to review the Constitution

The GOP has long touted themselves as being super patriotic and defenders of the Constitution. And yet, the GOP has evolved (they hate that term) from Joe McCarthy and the Red Scare to President Trump being Best Friends Forever with a current and former KGB agent who just happens to be the President of Russia. The irony of this fact is sad if it wasn’t so scary.

And now, President Trump needs a remedial course in civics to understand the Constitution and the separation of powers. His current Commission on Voter Fraud has requested private voter information from all the states and territories that many have refused to supply, and for good reason. The running of elections is the sole responsibility of the states and not the federal government, information that Trump and the Commission would know if they ever read and/or understood the U.S. Constitution.

The information on the above subjects is bad enough, but what makes the issue so worrisome is that many of Trump’s voters and supporters don’t see any problem with either of these issues. So much for the GOP and their hatred of communism and their belief in the Constitution and the rule of law; so much for their claim of being more patriotic than anyone else; so much for them being students of history that would inform them just how badly their hero, Trump, is being played by the Communist Russian leadership.

In addition to all of this, Trump’s voters won’t see what’s happening to them until it’s too late. Just six months in, and our country is feeling the effects of its bad choice when it voted last November. When the Trump voters finally realize what has happened and they practice their favorite hobby of looking for someone to blame, they won’t look in the mirror, but will, again, listen to their hero, ol’ Tweeter-In-Chief, and blame whoever he tells them to blame.
