Letter: Great service appreciated

Dear Editor Jim Krumel,

For the past several years we had an excellent The Lima News delivery person. Last fall we moved to a different part of town but continued to get The Lima News. Not until Christmas time when we received a card from this delivery person did we learn that he was still the same one as before. When we sent him a gift, I explained that my wife had become paralyzed overnight last summer, and I had to buy a one-story home (hence the move), have it remodeled, buy a conversion wheelchair van, besides all the hospital and doctors’ bills. I apologized that our gift this year was much less than in previous years, but our appreciation and gratefulness of his good service remained very high.

A few days thereafter, instead of finding the morning paper at the end of the driveway, I found it now placed upon the small side porch right outside the door everyday. I finally was able to spot him one morning as he delivered the paper. I explained to him that we certainly appreciated his extra caring and help, but he was going beyond his call of duty. Since I have peripheral neuropathy (inability to stand still or to lean over without falling), I told him that if he wished, he could bring the paper to the doorstep when the weather was snowy or icy. And he was faithful in doing so. But lo and behold, now even in the rain, or mist, I still find the paper on our doorstep.

We give a huge thank-you to The Lima News carrier, Donnie Peace, for his wonderful gestures of love, kindness and compassionate thoughtfulness.

Deb and Duane Bollenbacher, Bluffton
