Letter: Be a part of the process

I have lived in every part of town during my 60 years in Lima. I have contacted the mayor a few times and he has always got back withe me. The same can be said for the city councilors I know.

If you are concerned about what’s happening, attend a City Council meeting. The mayor and city councilors ask questions when new projects are being considered. You can express your opinion by scheduling time on the agenda.

Law enforcement has been a big issue. So many young lives are taken by firearms. You can obtain a gun and take a life, but you’re not old enough to have a driver’s license? Police Chief Martin tries to combat crime by sending the largest number of officers to the areas where the most crimes are committed. Some disagree with this.

Then there’s the subject of jobs around Lima.

A year or so ago, there were openings for firefighters, park rangers, water treatment plant and also police officer. There was also free training to help pass the Civil Service test for the jobs, only a handful of people showed up. You can change this situation if you really want to.

People need to get involved or quit the crying.

Go to the mayoral debates with your questions. Attend council meetings; they are open to the public.

The most important thing you can do is go downtown and register to vote, if you’re not already. I t will take you a half hour or less, then the next election get up and go vote. Nothing is going to change unless you help change it.

Be a part of the process.
