Taxpayers in the City of Van Wert pay more than enough taxes. There should be no increase to the income tax. How many times have city officials promised to collect a tax to fund specific needs? Do you remember the levy that was passed, with the city promising to properly maintain our streets? Our streets are in the worst shape that I have ever seen. Talk about a broken promise.
Many residents are out of work, work in low paying jobs or don’t have the money to pay more income tax. The mayor has told senior citizens that an increase will not affect them. He is trying to play one group off against the other. He shouted at me, telling me that variance notices are none of my business. He has called out the poor, the trash haulers and will find others to treat poorly too. We need a mayor, Council members and city officials who respect us. We live within our means, why can’t the city? Make cuts in all departments, cut staff, lower salaries. Be proactive no reactive. Vote!
