Letter: Put Lima in perspective.

We came to Lima in 1984 from Marion, eventually moving into Shawnee then Elida.

Regarding workforce economic development, there are continuing education, technical classes, grants, and scholarships available to everyone.

For earning academic, professional, and technical skills: Apollo, UNOH, Rhodes, OSU, Bluffton, ONU, and Vantage are all around us.

Skilled trades have many apprenticeship plumber, electrician, painter, carpenter, and laborer openings to earn while you learn! Who needs more crushing debt?

Temp services are hiring and replacing people constantly. You must establish a good work history to qualify for better paying careers. Entry level food service, retail, even general labor can all lead to good careers. I did that myself several times, so have millions of others.

Isn’t our problem the same everywhere: overcoming inertia, laziness, ignorance and greed?

Regarding elections, does it matter who gets elected if we don’t take responsibility for our families, homes, neighborhoods, and schools?

If we never demand accountability from our public officials much less ourselves?

Doubtful?

Seriously, can one official make or break Lima or Allen County? Can we discuss root causes seeking solutions not just playing character assassination?

In my opinion, to combat this fatalistic malaise and commensurate opioid epidemic, we must sell our people opportunity, verses constantly drumming down side doom and gloom.

This is our challenge.

The tools, assets, and infrastructure are here. Let’s put Lima Ohio in perspective, and get to work.

Russ Ramey, Elida
