On behalf of Allen Lima Leadership and the ALL Teddy Bear Fund, we want to acknowledge and thank the organizers of the Dan King Memorial Poker Run for their $6,460 donation to the Teddy Bear Fund.
The ninth annual poker run was held in July, and also included a hog roast, door prizes, raffles and corn hole tournament. Out of that one day, the community raised money for the Teddy Bear Fund, Allen County Special Olympics and Allen County D.A.R.E.
The Teddy Bear Fund has been a Lima tradition for more than 50 years, and it provides for 10,000 bears a year to children who visit Lima Memorial Health System and St. Rita’s Medical Center.
We so often see these kinds of events in our community and don’t think much about their impact, or the memory of the person the event is honoring. But we wanted to say thank you, and to make sure the community understands this: Each time a sick or scared child at one of Lima’s hospitals receives a Teddy bear, the people keeping Dan King’s memory alive in our hearts helped make that happen.
