Letter: 10 years late, $13 million short

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown has introduced the Clean Water Affordable Act to help communities upgrade their sewer systems to comply with the Clean Water Act of 1972. According to The Lima News, several local communities, including Columbus Grove, were in need of expensive upgrades to their systems, and this act was designed to help with that huge financial burden. We were made to begin to comply almost 10 years ago, and in 2016, we have completed these mandates in our village, at a huge burden to our residents.

It’s great that you now see a need to help, Sen. Brown, but where have you been for the last 10 years, and what type of relief will this bill give Columbus Grove and other communities like us, who have already finished the job. Our village of 2,200 people spent over $13 million with virtually no government help. Our residents need your help in this matter, and anything you can do that would be of assistance to us would be greatly appreciated.
