Letter: Carrying on Sherry’s legacy

The Women’s Wellness Center at St. Rita’s would like to express our sincere gratitude to the following groups and businesses for supporting our Sherry Halker Pink Ribbon Warrior Fund this past year: Lima Radiological Associates, Delphos Ambulatory Care Center, Shawnee Softball team, Panera, Design Concepts, Sycamore Lake Wine Co., and the Columbus Grove girls and boys basketball programs. In addition, we thank all those individuals who have made private donations or supported any of the fundraising events by purchasing tickets, T-shirts, baked goods, etc.

Every dollar raised for this fund is used directly for patient assistance. Since the inception of the fund in August of 2013, we have provided financial assistance for nearly 300 women (and a few men) in the form of mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast MRI’s, breast biopsies, and because of your generosity, are now able to help women receive genetic testing and treatment assistance.

To date, we have diagnosed six breast cancers through this fund, which may have gone undetected until they were later, more difficult to treat, cancers.

We are proud to be able to carry on Sherry’s legacy as a breast health navigator. Even though she is no longer with us physically, we feel her presence in the work that we can offer to those who are financially challenged and help make a difference in the lives of people in our own community.
