Letter: Correct facts on Perry Schools

As president of Perry School Board I am responding to the voter flyer sent out by Marc Pescosolido. I would like to address:

• Mr. Pescosolido claims the last 15 years has brought about a culture change for the worse. He was on the board at least 8 of the 15 years before quitting prior to his end of term.

• He speaks of open enrollment while serving on the board; yet, he consistently voted for open enrollment.

• He states that 50 percent of open-enrollment is from the city of Lima. This is not a true statement. Perry presently draws from Lima city, Allen East, Shawnee, Bath, Wapak, Elida, Delphos city and Waynesfield. Most importantly, Perry’s open enrolled students are predominantly, approximately 83 percent, related to our Perry alumni and residents.

•In regards to his statement about the truth not being told on how much our property tax would increase with the new elementary: It is important to understand the projected property tax increase related to the new elementary was issued from the Allen County Auditor’s Office. The Allen County Auditor’s office still certifies the projected increases and any questions can be answered by calling the auditor’s office directly.

I have been involved with the Perry School system for 22 years in band boosters, athletic boosters, girls basketball, volunteering in the elementary and on the school board for four years. Let’s all remember, it is local people who are involved, have a strong connection with, and are proud of the Perry Schools, who send their children here.
